Tom Martino was arrested this past Saturday at 4:55 am and is currently facing charges of public disturbance and domestic violence, according to police reports. Martino, 60, is a famous TV and radio personality who is also known by the nickname “Troubleshooter. He is currently free on a $600 bond and will likely be arraigned in the coming weeks. While law enforcement officials have not released the name of the victim due, in part, to the fact that the investigation in this case is ongoing, they did report that the woman in this case was hospitalized for the injuries she sustained as a result of the alleged domestic violence.
Domestic Violence Defense
When domestic violence charges are filed against any individual, it will be important to immediately start building a defense against these charges in order to achieve the best possible outcome to the case. Possible defense arguments could include that the alleged victim made false allegations as an act of revenge and/or as a way to attempt to gain the upper hand in a family court case, such as in a divorce case or a child custody case. Additionally, it may be possible to argue, depending on the circumstances of the case, that the alleged victim has a mental illness and/or was using drugs or alcohol prior to the incident and, consequently, has a skewed memory of what actually took place.
Regardless of the specific defense arguments used in a case, having an experienced defense attorney working on behalf of the accused is vital to minimizing the chances of conviction. This is because, if convicted of domestic violence, a person will likely have to:
- Spend some time in jail
- Pay expensive fines
- Lose his right to bear arms
- Relinquish his military pension
- Serve length probationary sentences
- Attend domestic violence and/or anger management education classes (which are associated with expensive enrollment fees).
