An Aurora public school employee, along with seven other men, has recently been arrested in a child prostitution case. According to the police report, the eight men arrested had responded to an online ad in which a female who was allegedly 17-years-old was offering sexual services as a prostitute at a local Aurora hotel. When each of the men showed up, Aurora law enforcement officials, as well as Denver FBI agents who are heading the “Innocence Lost” Task Force, arrested each of the men for soliciting from a child prostitute.
Soliciting charges for a first-time offense are typically filed as Class 3 misdemeanor charges, which can be punishable by up to 6 months in jail and fines of up to $750 upon conviction. If a person has two or more prior soliciting convictions, then the charges will likely be filed as a Class 6 felony, which can be punishable by up to 18 months in prison and fines of up to $100,000. When the case allegedly involves an underage individual as the prostitute, the charges – and associated penalties upon conviction – can be far more serious, as the accused individual could face charges of sexual exploitation of a child or Internet luring of a child.
Despite the severity of the sex crimes charges that the Aurora public school employee and others will be facing, it’s important that they keep in mind that:
- They are legally considered to be innocent until proven guilty.
- Working with a trusted criminal defense lawyer can be essential to helping them achieve the best possible resolution to their case.
