A 65-year-old cancer patient who doctor’s estimate has between 2 and 5 years left to live has just been sentenced to 9 years in prison for a conviction in a child porn case. According to court documents, the man confessed to downloading nearly 1,000 pictures of child pornography, and nearly one-third of these pictures involved minors younger than about 13 years old. Law enforcement officials reportedly first became aware of the man as a suspect when his wife’s sister called them after his wife had encountered some of these child porn pictures on the family’s home computer. At that time, the wife had also reported to police that she suspected that her husband may have had an inappropriate relationship with an 11-year-old girl who had been their neighbor.

Upon questioning the neighbor girl, police learned that the man had reportedly touched the girl inappropriately hundreds of times and that the girl was aware of and bothered by the man’s sexual obsession with her.

While the child pornography case against the man was filed and prosecuted in the federal courts, the state of Colorado opened up its own case against the man for the inappropriate sexual contact he had engaged in with the neighbor girl. In the state’s case against the man, he was ultimately convicted on charges of inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor and received a sentence of 3 months in jail, followed by 10 years of probation; he was also sentenced to register as a Colorado sex offender for the remainder of his life.
