Federal and Colorado State law enforcement officials have arrested 77 people and seized drugs, money and guns as part of a massive drug operation known as “Operation Tattletale.” The operation, which first started nine months ago, was focused on bringing down a car theft and meth drug ring being operated by the Los Primeros Padres or LPP prison gang and involved extensive collaboration between federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) agents, as well as law enforcement officials in both Adams and Denver Counties.
The massive bust in Operation Tattletale started Tuesday evening after a grand jury handed down an indictment that included a total of 230 counts pertaining to various crimes, including:
- Racketeering (per the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act)
- Motor vehicle theft
- Drug trafficking
While a total of 77 people have been arrested, not all of the 45 individuals listed in the indictment have been located and detained by police, and as a result, authorities have kept the indictment sealed as they attempt to locate the still at-large individuals. Officials did, however, explain that the prison gang had initiated an extensive meth ring about nine months ago when the first members were being released from prison, that the drug operation involved importing meth – much of which was found to be 99 percent pure – from Mexico and that stealing and selling stolen cars was the way in which gang members generated money to import meth to the U.S.
