When winter strikes in Colorado, you can take one of two approaches: you can bundle up, hide in your house, and wait for the warm weather to return, or you can embrace the cold and everything that winter in Denver has to offer!

Go outside and make snowmen, have a snowball fight, go sledding, hit the slopes on skis or a snowboard, go snowshoeing, or—one of our favorites—go ice skating!

This month, we encourage you to get outside and lace up your skates at Skyline Park’s Southwest Skating Rink. Ice skating is a fun, family-friendly activity that is perfect for just about any skill level and budget.

Skate rentals are just two dollars, and admission to the rink itself is free. Every Sunday, kids get in for free as well.

The rink is open daily until February 16. The hours are as follows:

  • Monday through Thursday: 12 to 5 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Don’t know how to skate? No problem! The rink offers free lessons to all ages on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The lessons take place before general rink hours, on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Denver is a beautiful city that really comes alive in the winter, so make sure to take advantage of all of the great activities you can share with family and friends this time of year.
