A man who had been a motorcycle traffic police officer in Littleton for more than 20 years has recently been arrested and could be facing federal drug charges. According to the police report associated with the case, the man – 46-year-old Jeffrey Allan Johnston – allegedly bought upwards of $1,200 of ecstasy and other drugs from a confidential informant who had been working with FBI agents in a federal drug investigation. On July 15, Johnston had allegedly called the informant to arrange the purchase of the ecstasy and other drugs, at which time federal investigators recorded the conversation. Johnston was later arrested at his home by federal investigators and is currently being detained without bail until the initial hearing in his case, which is set for Thursday July 25th. Among the specific federal drug charges that Johnston is currently facing include charges of:
- Drug possession (specifically pertaining to possession of ecstasy, cocaine, steroids and various prescription drugs for which Johnston did not have a valid prescription)
- Drug possession with the intent to deliver
- Possession of a firearm as part of a drug trafficking offense
Because federal investigators had found scales, baggies and other paraphernalia associated with the distribution of drugs, prosecutors may also file drug trafficking or drug distribution charges against Johnston when he is arraigned later this week.
