Five individuals are currently facing multiple felony charges for allegedly running a massive car theft ring that they operated in an effort to secure meth. While Denver law enforcement officials are still trying to track down two of the suspects, the three others, who are currently in custody and range in age from 27 to 46 years old, are facing serious felony criminal charges that include:
- Aggravated motor vehicle theft, which can be filed as either a Class 4 or a Class 3 felony for each vehicle allegedly stolen – The severity of the felony for each charge will depend on whether the vehicle was valued to be worth more than $20,000.
- Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines) – The severity of these felony charges will be dependent on the amount of meth allegedly found in the suspect’s possession.
- White collar crimes charges, including charges of identity theft and forgery – Like the car theft charges, the severity of the felony charges brought about for these specific white collar crimes will vary according to the amount of money or the value of goods allegedly stolen via forgery and identity theft.
- Various other theft charges.
Denver authorities allege that the suspects in this case began stealing cars in the summer of 2012 and that, since their alleged car theft ring has been in operation, they have stolen more than 20 vehicles totaling an amount greater than $90,000.
